Awning Windows and Casement windows crank out. They are hinged either
on top for the awning window, which opens outward, or on the side for
the casement window,
which opens either from the left or the right depending on what side
they are hinged.
Casements open outward to either the left or the right. The wonderful
benefit of awning windows is the ability to place them on high walls,
such as in a finished basement. They also provide protection from the
rain if you wish to have an open window during a gentle rain.
Awning windows and casement windows can be mulled (joined together) to
create a beautiful wall of light. Some contractors, who construct
sunrooms, use this combination of window to provide both light and
ventilation. Some contractors use double or triple casements.
You can find beautiful awning windows on Prairie, Tudor, French, Ranch,
and Contemporary style homes and buildings.
