The double hung replacement
windows
When to Use a
Double-Hung Window
Double Hung windows have two
sashes. Window sashes are the frameworks, which holds the panes of
glass. Both the top (outside) sash and bottom (inside) sash can slide
up or down, permitting you to open the window from the top or bottom.
The bottom sash is normally opened for ventilation. However, if you have
a top floor, or live
in a multilevel home with small children, opening the top sash provides
the desired ventilation and offers an extra safety measure for small
children.
Double-Hung Windows require limited space and make excellent choices for
areas with limited space such as patios, porches, and walkways. They
also make an architectural statement. You will find double-hung windows
on such traditional designs as Colonial, Craftsman, French, Shingle, and
Victorian.
With the tilt-out/wash variety of double-hung windows available on the
market today, keeping your windows clean is no longer a chore.
When purchasing your double-hung windows, they should slid open with
little effort.
