There are three basic methods to improve the energy performance of
glazing products. Sometimes two or more of these methods may be used.
1. Coat the glazing material surface with a reflective film, or Low-E
coating. This process was developed to reduce glare, heat gain and to
improve performance.
2. Use multiple layers of glazing to control the properties of the
air space between the layers. This would include thermally improved edge
spacers and low-conductance gas.
3. Alter the glazing material by changing its physical
characteristics or composition chemically. Tinted glazing is an example
of this process.
