Features to look for in
replacement patio doors
Some
of the features to look for in energy-saving replacement windows
What to look for in energy-saving replacement doors:
The patio door can be the heaviest traffic area of you home. For this
reason you
want to purchase a door that is both reliable and made of top quality
construction.
1. Security: Your patio door needs to have a keyed lockset, a thumb
turn deadbolt, and a kick lock, or a four point locking system which
consist of two
locking bars (these lock into the head and floor sills), a key lock and
a ventilation
lock.
2. Easy operation: Look for top-quality ball-bearings assemblies that
give you
a smooth-rolling door, one that accurately glides with the touch of your
fingertip.
If your patio door is a hinged door, they should swing with ease.
3. Thermal Performance: You want the same R-Factor as the replacement
windows you have installed on that side of your home.
4. Structural Integrity: The American Architectural Manufacturers
Association, (AAMA) certification should be the same, or better as that
of the windows you have installed on that side of your home.
