Single-glazed clear replacement windows

Two different types of single glazed replacement windows

There are two different kinds of single glazed replacement windows. They are single-glazed clear and single-glazed with bronze or gray tint.

Single-glazed clear:

Single-glazed with clear glass is just as its name indicates. It is single-glazed
clear glass. This will permit the greatest amount of daylight to enter the room while allowing the highest transfer of energy, or depending on you climate conditions, the amount of heat loss or gain.

Single-glazed with bronze/gray tint:

Bronze or gray tinted glass will reduce the amount of solar heat gain, well reducing the amount of visible light. Single-glazed clear glass offers considerably more visible light to enter the room than the bronze or gray tinting. Tinting helps to reduce glare and in some cases will reduce solar heat gain and limit the amount of light entering the room. This may be desirable in certain areas. Tinting does not affect the U-factor, however it will reduce the solar heat gain. This is a benefit in the summer and in areas that have mild winters, such as in the southern most states, however this could be a problem in very cold climates.
